Accessibility

The Cornwall Community Museum is managed by the SDG Historical Society and is committed to telling the unique stories of the United Counties and Cornwall through its collections and research resources and making them accessible to all visitors. Check out the Cornwall Community Museum Accessibility Policy and the Accessibility Plan for more information.

Admission

Admission to the Museum is free, but donations are accepted.

Entrance

Parking is available in front of the building, with several spaces designated for people with permits. All walkways leading to and from the main entrance are unobstructed and wide enough to allow for the free passage of people with mobility aids and/or accompanied by service animals or support persons.

Inside the Museum

All internal walkways are unobstructed and allow the free passage of people in wheelchairs or accompanied by support persons or service dogs. The main floor exhibit space and basement research area are accessible by elevator, which you will need a staff member to operate. The top floor can only be accessed by stairs. However, our staff are happy to provide any required information regarding the upstairs exhibits.

Tours

Guided tours are offered, and they typically run about 50 minutes covering two floors. These can be modified as needed for persons with a learning, visual, and/or hearing impairment. We are working to incorporate new technologies to further accommodate accessibility. Chairs are available for resting. Visitors are allowed to use any assistive device they need to enjoy the tour. Unless a tour group is present, the Museum is usually not crowded. We don’t provide food or drink.

For preservation purposes, most artifacts cannot be handled. Those that can be manipulated are marked as such. The staff can help you with these objects.

Research

We assist clients of all ages and abilities with their research needs and accommodate our approach to data collection and presentation as suggested/required, such as with verbal/textual descriptions of photographs and artifacts.

Information and Communication

We can be reached by telephone, email, and in person. We welcome feedback about the Museum’s accessibility, and suggestions are always helpful. Check back to this page for the most up-to-date accommodations.
