History on the Porch – The Loyalists are Landing

For something different in Lamoureux Park, join us on Saturday June 7, 2025 when the Cornwall Community Museum launches History on the Porch. This first of a series of events will commemorate the arrival of the Loyalists who landed on our shores on June 6, 1784. Hear the stories of the hardships that drove these Loyalists from their comfortable homes in New York, the horrendous tales of their travels to reach their new homes and how they survived and thrived and built what became today’s Cornwall and SDG. Meet the ancestors of many of the today’s citizens as they tell their stories. Watch as they draw for the lot of land where they would settle. Take part in the lot drawing and maybe draw a lucky slip. Will you get forest, fields, rocks or swamp for your land? History on the Porch will be held from 2-3pm on the Porch at the Museum at 160 Water Street West. Admission is free. Bring your own chair.

Pour une expérience au parc Lamoureux, rejoignez-nous le samedi 7 juin 2025 pour le lancement de « Histoire sur le porche » par le Musée Communautaire de Cornwall. Ce premier événement commémorera l’arrivée des Loyalistes sur nos côtes le 6 juin 1784. Écoutez les récits des épreuves qui ont poussé ces Loyalistes à quitter leurs confortables demeures new-yorkaises, les récits horribles de leurs voyages pour atteindre leurs nouvelles terres et comment ils ont survécu, prospéré et bâti ce qui est devenu Cornwall et SDG d’aujourd’hui. Rencontrez les ancêtres de nombreux citoyens d’aujourd’hui et écoutez-les raconter leurs histoires. Regardez-les tirer au sort le lot de terre où ils s’établiraient. Participez au tirage au sort et tirez peut-être un coupon porte-bonheur. Aurez-vous une forêt, des champs, des rochers ou un marais pour votre terrain ? « Histoire sur le porche » se tiendra de 14 h à 15 h sur le porche du musée, au 160, rue Water Ouest. L’entrée est gratuite. Apportez votre chaise.
