Cornwall Street Railway

Museum Blog - December 2017

Some of us recall the days of trolley buses, and before that, street cars travelling the streets of Cornwall.

A vintage streetcar marked "Hastings East" travels down a street past early 20th-century buildings, including the historic St. George Hotel. Passersby watch it go by, evoking nostalgia.

The street car ‘barns’ were located on the site of the current Cornwall Square shopping center. From this hub, crews maintained, repaired, and dispatched the  streetcars that once served as Cornwall’s most unique form of urban transportation.

An old, red tram equipped with large, spinning brush wheels for street cleaning, sits outside a brick depot. Overhead cables are visible.
